But the situation changed gradually: more and more freedom was snatched away.

Hong Kong is on this orbit already. Yes, the situation is better since China is moving forward. However, when the Chief Executive is hand-picked by the old people of CCP, he is bounded to be licking the smallest toe of the "leaders" and working in ways to please his master(s).

This is why only democracy can save Hong Kong.

Some people say that Hong Kong ppl are not of the quality to run a democratic society. Yes, I agree part of it. The education system should be reformed so as to make it more diversified and educate ppl with rational judgment and independent thinking. But we can't wait until this happens. The fundamental reason is that a totalitarian government would not like to see an education system producing independent minds. Without democracy, our education system cannot be improved!

I don't say that democracy is the solution of all kinds of problems. But the fact is that, without democracy, these problems are of no chance to be rectified.

Lam Tin Wai藍天蔚https://www.blogger.com/profile/06806171285661560241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5548414865002328198.post-41896486529702347742008-02-02T00:37:00.000+08:002008-02-02T00:37:00.000+08:00yes, i've read the "highschool" version of the boo...yes, i've read the "highschool" version of the book. it's not the exactly the original book but i hope it keeps the essence of it. the book is able to lead highschool students to think about something they have never thought about. however, from my own experience "a tale of two cities" gives more impact...

it predicts chinese history bc similar situations had happened in soviet union? i'm hoping the same is not going to happen in hk. it seems that we are stepping backward when the rest of the world is moving forward. this upsets me a lot :(Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5548414865002328198.post-41429147029755687742008-01-31T23:17:00.000+08:002008-01-31T23:17:00.000+08:00sky, Did you read 1984 by George Orwell? He actually foretold what happened in communist countries.

If you're interested, you can read it. However, the English is difficult.

Lam Tin Wai藍天蔚https://www.blogger.com/profile/06806171285661560241noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5548414865002328198.post-28983168742708783862008-01-31T01:20:00.000+08:002008-01-31T01:20:00.000+08:00i forgot which newspaper and when exactly.... it's...i forgot which newspaper and when exactly.... it's about 5 years ago i think.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5548414865002328198.post-57825214707701510182008-01-31T01:19:00.000+08:002008-01-31T01:19:00.000+08:00i remember reading an article in newspapers that t...i remember reading an article in newspapers that the same thing happened in russia after the communist came into power. basically the original language is burtally destroyed and replaced by one with a lot of new violent words, terms and usage. isn't it just a reflection of the the mentality of those who gained power, as well as the changed life of the people?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
